What is a digital forklift pre-operation checklist?

A digital forklift pre-operation checklist is an electronic version of the daily truck examination, completed by the operator on a tablet, phone or on-truck terminal before driving, that produces a timestamped record of who checked which truck and what they found. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178(q)(7) requires trucks to be examined before being placed in service, at least daily, or after each shift where trucks run around the clock. When the checklist is linked to access control, a failed item can lock the truck out, or keep a compatible forklift in a reduced-speed mode, until a supervisor clears it.

The full guide is Forklift inspection apps, which covers how digital checks are set up and audited. OSHA does not prescribe a form, paper or electronic. It does prescribe a consequence: a truck with a defect affecting safe operation is taken out of service until repaired. A digital checklist helps show that happened, because each answer carries a time, an operator ID and a truck ID, and a failed item can alert maintenance straight away. Check that the questions match the truck type, such as electric, LPG or stand-up, and use the inspection checklist guide as a base. The record only helps if someone reviews skipped or rushed checks.
