Samsara alternatives for forklift and warehouse fleets

If Samsara does not fit the fleet inside your building, these are the real alternatives.

Samsara alternatives for forklift and warehouse fleets

People search for Samsara alternatives from two different places. Some have priced it and want the same thing cheaper. Others have discovered that the platform is shaped for vehicles on public roads and are looking for something built for the fleet inside the building. The second group is the larger one in materials handling, and it needs a different shortlist entirely.

Start by naming the problem, because the alternatives are not interchangeable.

If you need to see and account for assets

This is the job Samsara does well: locations, geofences, utilization, dormancy, remote diagnostics, one map across sites. If that is genuinely your requirement and the objection is only price or contract terms, the closest equivalents are Powerfleet, whose Fleet Complete forklift offering now runs inside the Unity platform and advertises access control, speed management and preventative maintenance for warehouses, and the OEM systems if your fleet is single-brand.

Be honest about the scope though. Asset visibility is a finance and operations win. It prevents almost no collisions on its own, which is covered in our guide to forklift fleet management.

If your fleet is mostly one brand

Then the strongest alternative is usually the truck maker’s own system, because the integration is deeper and the dealer who services the forklift also supports the telematics. Crown’s InfoLink pairs electronic inspection checklists with on-screen coaching, operator access management and impact investigation on an in-cab touch display. Raymond’s iWAREHOUSE covers access control, battery management, impact management, utilization and labour standards, sold in tiers from basic telematics up to full warehouse optimisation.

The tradeoff is the one every OEM system has: it covers its own trucks properly and treats everything else as a second-class citizen. Count your fleet by make before committing, because a brand that holds eighty per cent today can fall below half after one lease cycle.

If you need to stop collisions, not record them

This is the most common reason a warehouse abandons a general platform, and it is where the shortlist changes completely. Samsara’s safety product is built around driver behaviour on the road: distraction, drowsiness, harsh braking, tailgating, lane departure. Those events do not describe a reach truck reversing out of an aisle.

The alternatives here are detection systems. Speedshield’s AiVA uses 3D vision to detect people around industrial vehicles at up to 12 m with configurable warning and danger zones, needs no tags or wearables, and can trigger slow-down or stop where the truck maker exposes the interlock. Blaxtair takes a comparable camera-AI approach on forklifts. Trio Mobil covers collision avoidance and pedestrian safety on one platform alongside its telematics. Which architecture suits you depends on whether you can enforce tag discipline on visitors and agency staff, a decision our pedestrian detection and collision avoidance pages set out in full.

If you want both layers from one supplier

Speedshield is the clearest example of detection and telematics under one contract, with Velocity Asset Manager handling fleet analytics, operator identification and incident reporting while AiVA handles detection. Trio Mobil is the other. The appeal is a single vendor for the whole safety stack and one dataset joining who was driving to what was detected. The cost is concentration: you are betting the entire programme on one supplier’s roadmap and support.

Our review of Speedshield covers the catalog module by module, including the limits the vendor documents itself.

If the real gap is that nobody is running this

Sometimes the honest answer is not a different platform. If forklift technology decisions keep stalling because no one owns them, a managed route may fit better than another dashboard. Fleet Team, for instance, sells brand-agnostic selection and ongoing management, and will integrate AI cameras, safety lighting and pedestrian warning systems alongside whatever telematics you choose. See our review of Fleet Team for who that suits, which is mostly larger multi-site fleets.

Do not switch before checking this

Three questions settle most of these decisions. First, where does your risk actually sit, in the aisle or in the yard? A yard problem is a tracking problem and Samsara may already be the right answer. Second, do you want a system that reports or one that enforces? Only the second changes behaviour at three in the morning. Third, what does the migration really cost, counting the hardware you have already fitted, the contract you are still inside, and the reporting your operations team has built on it?

Run the risk scorer before you shortlist. It produces the scope that lets every vendor quote the same job, which is the only way the answers come back comparable. The full field is laid out in forklift telematics systems compared, and if Samsara does turn out to be the right platform for your assets, our guide to Samsara for forklift safety covers what to pair with it.
