AI video analytics

Also called: AI safety cameras, video analytics, AI CCTV analytics

AI video analytics applies computer vision to fixed or vehicle-mounted camera feeds to flag safety events automatically, such as near misses, pedestrians in vehicle-only areas or missing PPE.

Traditional CCTV records footage that someone reviews after an incident. AI video analytics watches the same feeds continuously and turns them into events: a forklift and a person closer than a set distance, a truck speeding through a marked zone, a blocked emergency exit. Events usually arrive with a short clip and a location, which makes them useful for coaching and for finding hazardous layouts before someone is hurt.

Fixed-camera analytics usually work as an observation and reporting tool, not a real-time collision warning. By the time an event is logged, the moment has passed, so it complements in-vehicle detection rather than replacing it. Coverage is limited to camera views, and results depend on lighting, camera angle and how rules are tuned. Video of identifiable workers brings privacy, consent and retention questions that differ by state and country, and the AI camera privacy guide covers them. The camera systems page explains how cameras pair with detection systems.
