Forklift safety systems integrate with doors, traffic lights and barriers when they have relay outputs, programmable controller outputs or a network interface that can switch external equipment when a forklift or a person is detected. Systems with this capability are usually fixed installations, such as cameras or UWB anchors mounted at an intersection, doorway or dock, rather than units mounted only on the truck. Typical uses are a light that turns red for pedestrians when a truck approaches, a high-speed door that opens only for a truck, and a barrier that stays closed while a person is in the zone.
Ask suppliers which outputs the system provides (dry contacts, PLC signals, network protocols), whether integration is standard or a custom project, and who is responsible for the door or barrier control logic. The door or barrier supplier and an integrator usually need to be involved, and a loss of the detection signal should leave the equipment in a safe state.
Forklifts and powered doors and Forklift intersection safety cover the site controls these integrations support. Suppliers that offer outputs are compared in Forklift safety system vendors compared.
