Real-time location system for forklift safety

A real-time location system (RTLS) for forklift safety tracks the position of forklifts and people continuously, usually with ultra-wideband tags and fixed anchors, so it can warn when they come too close, slow compatible forklifts inside defined zones and record each close interaction. Zones can be drawn around dock doors, crossings and pedestrian-dense areas without new physical barriers. Because positions are stored, RTLS also produces heat maps of where interactions cluster. It protects only tagged people and trucks and needs anchor coverage across the area, so installation is heavier than a truck-only system.

The full guide is real-time location systems (RTLS) for forklift safety. Before buying, check the location accuracy the supplier commits to in racked aisles, the anchor density your layout needs, how tags are issued and charged, and whether the same data can feed utilisation or asset tracking.

Ask how zone speed limits are enforced on each truck model in your fleet. Forklift geofencing explains the zone logic, and forklift fleet tracking compares RTLS with RFID and other tracking methods.
